"Oh, man," gasped Nibbles, still laughing. "Did you see that?” The trawler was slipping awkwardly into the inlet as the smoke cleared.
Harvey was laughing as well, albeit apprehensively. “I can’t believe we just did that. We’re gonna get in so much trouble.”
"I didn’t think that stick had anything in it. I really thought it was a firecracker." Nibbles dragged his prideful smirk through the wind as the two absconded on his father’s Jeanneau. "I’m telling you, Harvey, this is going to be the summer. Our summer.”
Harvey and Nibbles carried their secret through the summer and into their freshman year at university. That evening faded into memory until one night in October, when Nibbles saw a shadowy figure outside Farnam Hall. As he approached the door, he heard a familiar voice.
“I know what ye’ did, ye’ rapscallion. Ye’ can’t run forever.”
